Blackfriars is a station on the London Underground. I've recently moved to London and have, needless to say, been using the tube a lot more than I ever have before. I have come to the conclusion that I do not like Blackfriars tube station.

It's closed until 2011. You can see on this map that there is an ominous red line through the station name.

I've been using my time on the tube to think about writing. I've been trying to get the feel of my new environment and unearth the first few stories that I am going to tell whilst in London. I've been jotting things down in my notebook and stringing together some story plots. It's all very exciting and prolific and easy until..... the carriage slows down and instead of stopping just gently clambers through Blackfriars. The station is dead. There's no other way of describing it. It's eerily lit and dusty. It's cold and lonely and dark.

And when the train speeds up I can't write anything anymore. Until I'm back above ground all I can think of is that deserted strip of platform and the metal shutters over the exits. And someone standing down there.
