Writing this now has become an unintentionally strenuous memory game. These tiny fragments of dialogue have been meticulously extracted.
This is what I have.
The List. (in no order)
1. I think I'll be ok. I'm all wrapped up.
2. Oh my God! The paint ball episode.
3. Can I come and see you?
4. I just want to talk.
5. Spare any change?
6. Have you eaten?
7. I think we should put the bird up there.
8. I read the one about the woman who returns from the war.
9. It was good.
10. I stopped a girl like that falling in the road once.
So there you have it. A little inventory for Monday 30th January.
I'm not sure what it was about these ten phrases that stood out. Perhaps it was the people that said them, perhaps it was their intonation or just the way I was listening at that particular moment, but for whatever reason I have remembered them above anything else that was said to me. I do not necessarily know what I may have said in response to them either (some of them I do "Ok" - "No, sorry" - "Did you like it?") but others stand isolated as perfect summaries of entirely forgotten conversations.
And others still are a whole lot more than that. I'm a firm believer in the ability of words to wrestle into shape even the most complex of ideas.
11. See you tomorrow
